🎓 EDUCATION and AI
via Patrick, early studies on GPT that show limited results in education. One important limitation is that ChatGPT is not specifically trained on student work, and as a result, ChatGPT may struggle to give students appropriate feedback. For instance, scientist Neil Heffernan at WPI explored using GPT-3, the LLM underlying ChatGPT, to give explanations of middle school math problems, and the experiment didn’t yield positive results. TLDR: GPT-3 couldn’t perform as well as teachers in giving hints because it hadn’t been trained on educational math data or dialogue.
